Anime has become increasingly popular in mainstream media and especially with the whole pandemic, people are just now discovering the beauty of it. Over the past decade I've watched over 350 different anime (I'm not exaggerating, not sure if this is something to boast about either haha). So why not put this knowledge into good use? In the coming weeks, I will write about a show that I think anyone can sit down, watch, and enjoy! I will try to keep spoilers to a minimum, don't worry. (:
The show follows high schooler Chiyo Sakura a girl who is head over heels for Umetarou Nozaki, who happens to be the author and artist of a popular shojo romance manga called Let's Fall in Love. Although, he uses a pen name "Sakiko Yumeno", so only a few people know that he's the author--it's not pretty common for a high school boy to be an author of a romance comic for young women.
So, Chiyo tries to confess her love to him after school one day but he doesn't quite understand and instead gives her his autograph with the pen name. Confused at first, Chiyo asks if he is Sakiko Yumeno which he thought that she already knew. But to be far, the way Chiyo confessed her love, left a lot of room for misunderstanding. She also then agrees to follow Nozaki home thinking romantically, but ends up being his comic assistant since his deadlines are always tight. Thus begins all the continued misunderstandings between the two.
More characters start to get thrown into the mix, like Nozaki's good friend and inspiration behind the main heroine in Let's Fall in Love, Mikoto Mikoshiba, a popular flirty high schooler who gets all flustered and embarrassed after he flirts with girls. Yes, he is the inspiration for the female lead in his comic.
There is also Yuu Kashima who is the handsome prince of the school despite being a girl. She can flirt with girls, or really anyone she wants without getting embarrassed. She has perfect grades which Mikoshiba tries to beat her but never can. She is also the lead in all the school plays thanks to Masayuki Hori who also helps Nozaki with drawing backgrounds for the comic. He follows Kashima around and makes sure she doesn't slack off.
There is also an extremely oblivious girl who can never read the room who referenced as a character in Nozaki's comic, a very sweet-hearted basket ball player who ends up helping Nozaki finish some chapters, a stoic publisher who Nozaki idolizes, a fellow manga author and other minor characters.
Everyone ends up helping Nozaki in some way or another.
The characters are all so fun and dynamic that when they are thrown into a scene with one another, craziness is bound to happen. But that's perfect for Nozaki, he uses everything he sees as potential story writing for his comic.
Here Nozaki gets really sick and asks everyone to come help but still tries to draw out the characters on his own.
Here Chiyo hoped to share an umbrella with Nozaki to further their romantic relationship but doesn't go as planned.
And here is a bit of one of my favorite character who can never read the room.
Chiyo and Nozaki may be the main characters, but that doesn't stop the rest of the cast from leaving an impression. Everyone is written imperfectly perfect.
The show is just full with so many great comedy scenes with a splash of unexpected romance thrown in. It's definitely a comedy show that stands among the many anime out there. You may even understand a little bit more of how manga is written (this isn't the most accurate representation but definitely one of the most funniest).
The show is only 12 episodes long and leaves off without a real conclusion. Sadly, there has not been any news of a season two, but maybe some day? The unique aspect of the show is pretty different compared to what is mainstream, but it does not stop it from being great. If you want a short comedy romance show, this one is definitely a must watch.
If you already watched this anime or plan on it, let me know your thoughts in the comments below! (:
This week's anime is a comedy, sports, coming-of-age shonen. You're probably thinking, "a show about volleyball?? gross" but trust me, this show is good . The show follows Shoyo Hinata, after constantly losing every volleyball game (due to forcing random people on his team since nobody else wanted to join) decides to attend Karasuno High School to become the next "Little Giant"--his idol nicknamed that for his small height but took the school to the nationals years prior. But once Hinata enrolls in the school and joins the club, he learns that the current volleyball team is one of the worst ones in prefecture . Karasuno means crow and now with their reputation as a powerhouse volleyball school is gone, they are now " The Wingless Crows ". Hinata wasn't the only first year to join the volleyball team, Tobio Kageyama also did who actually faced Hinata in a volleyball game during middle school. With Hinata's raw talent of jumping incredibly h
You may be thinking, "that's such a dark title", well it is a pretty dark show . This 12 episode anime takes place in the afterlife, in a bar called Quindecim. There's a mysterious white haired bartender, Decim and his helper Chiyuki who bring two people at a time, who passed away, and make them play a game to see whether they can reincarnate, or go to a place which is basically purgatory. You may be thinking "games are fun, right?", well, if you want to call throwing darts onto a board that inflicts pain on a certain artery is fun, well then, I guess it could be fun? With each different "couple" that comes in, the game is different but ultimately both are staking their lives, or you could say their future lives'? These people don't know their dead, so with that, they are incredibly confused as to where they are and why. This is purposeful. With them not knowing they're dead, they tend to give it their all in the game their playing to w
Over the past few weeks, I've shared a handful of anime that I think you need to watch. But these few weeks weren't enough time to list off all the shows that are binge worthy. After this blog post, I will be taking a hiatus from writing on this blog to heavily focus on my post grad job search. So with that being said, I'm going to give a quick run down of even more anime to watch! A Lull in the Sea If you want to cry, this is the show that will do it--I binged this show in a day in a half. This aesthetically beautiful drama/romance is about humans and mermaid like humans who live in the water. The mermaid like humans kinda need to stay in water to live so they can't be with those on land. From the New World This show takes place in a utopia world and the difficulties that is in a coming of age story. The main character searches for the mysterious of the world she's thrown into while discovering herself. It gets pretty weird but the more you watch, the more interes
