Terror in Resonance
Here is another somewhat dark and depressing anime--a drama/psychological show to be exact.
This 2014 anime follows the short and lively adventure of a bullied high school girl--Lisa, and her unexpected meet up with two incredibly, intelligent, high schoolers who are bombing Japan. The boys go by the names Nine and Twelve.
Nine is the calm and collective one who is the mastermind of it all, while Twelve is the kindhearted and skillful automotive one who befriends lonely Lisa. Both boys were part of a secret government experiment conducted on highly intelligent orphans with savant syndrome in hopes to make them into human weapons. Most died, but these two were survivors out of the 26 others.
The show starts off with a radioactive chemical element being stolen by the two boys with the message "VON" left in red spray paint at the nuclear facility. Six months later, Nine and Twelve enroll in Lisa's school. A video of the two boys in masks is also uploaded online, threatening to bomb a part of Japan if they can't solve a riddle.
Throughout the show, these two continue to post more anonymous videos by the name of Sphinx, bomb more locations, and hack into government security--basically toying with the government. Although, they don't want to kill anyone. The two just want to be remembered.
Lisa helps them out with what she can since she isn't exactly "gifted" but resonates with their feelings. Her classmates physically and verbally bully her and her mom is over attached to the point that she freaks out when Lisa is gone. So, it makes sense that this lonely high schooler seeks out the adventure without question.
Obviously, what they're doing is domestic terrorism which can't be accepted no matter what the cause is. So, there's an ex head detective who helps out the scrambling police department on this case, Kenjiro Shibazaki. For reference, he used to be the ace of the police force division but was demoted for continuing an unauthorized investigation. But because he is also incredibly intelligent, he is brought to this difficult case.
There's a lot of explosions and dramatic scenes that leave you on the edge of your seats. It's hard not to root for these two lost teenage boys since it was the government who caused them so much pain in the first place. Whichever side you pick, there is an end to the show, and a very sad one at that.
Here is a quick trailer of what to expect:
And here is a link to watch in either English or Japanese.
The anime is only 11 episodes with each being around 23 minutes long. Like I mentioned, there is an ending so there is no need for a season two. This is definitely a gem that made me forget I was even watching anime, due to how realistic things look and get. So if you want something serious with a mix of action, a beautiful soundtrack and animation, then this might be the next show you can watch!
I hope reading this made you just a bit interested in the show. Next week will be another sad anime. (:
Wow! This post is very interesting and eye opening! I never thought I would enjoy anime and this has opened my eyes to try to watch it sometimes. Thank you for sharing this! Who knows maybe I'll have a ton of new shows to binge watch!
